No Enlistment, No Vote

No Enlistment, No Vote

Yarden, my parliamentary advisor, has done more than 140 days of reserve military service since the beginning of the war.
While she is giving herself entirely to the country, there are young men who are choosing to evade our core obligation – to serve and protect our homeland.

The obtuse statement made by MK Yossi Tayib of Shas – claiming that his son “will learn Torah in jail but will not serve in the military” – isn’t just a provocation;
rather, it blatantly crosses all red lines. Supporters of draft evasion have lost all shame and have become completely disconnected from the collective responsibility we share as a nation and as a society.

It cannot continue this way.

MK Oded Forer of Israel Beytenu has proposed legislation that will revoke the ‘right to vote’ from anyone who refuses to fulfill their mandatory national obligations. It’s completely absurd that anyone who has evaded their national service would then be given the right to influence the lives of those who have sacrificed their souls for the country.

No enlistment, no vote!
